In an ideal world, exotic birds would not be forced to remain captive for the entertainment and companionship of humans. Unfortunately, many others do not agree with this philosophy and have chosen to exploit these animals for their beauty, intelligence, and novelty.
This list is not intended to be all-inclusive. This list is to provide examples of what we believe would constitute abuse and/or neglect.
• Birds being kept as decorations in public establishments, such as retail stores, hotels, bars and restaurants, etc.
• Birds being kept by private individuals in unsafe and neglectful conditions. Unsafe conditions would include improper caging and diet, insufficient lighting, insufficient conditions for rest and exercise, insufficient veterinary care, lack of social contact, along with outright abuse.
• Birds being displayed at bird shows and marts, usually sponsored by local bird clubs. While the birds may belong to private breeders, the sponsoring club is still to blame for putting those birds at risk.
• Any other situation where birds are not being cared for properly, abused, or in any other way neglected.
